Second Annual Cafe Soleil

The Northwest Space Agency held their 2nd Annual Cafe du Soleil – A Cold Coffee Mocktail Competition at the Synesso Factory in Seattle last night. Our Sales & Education Coordinator Ross Beamish competed along other great baristas like Lacy Audry (Kalsada Coffee) and coffee legend Dismas Smith (Caffe Ladro). The drinks had three requirements 1.Must contain coffee 2.Must not contain alcohol (vanilla extract is fine, but no 151 to make it flaming) 3.Must be cold. Competitors made drinks on Synesso’s new MVP Hydra models.

The turnout was great with many folks bopping around the Synesso factory playing ping pong and enjoying coffee cocktails. After the votes came in our very own Ross had taken the top spot! Ross’ winning cocktail is listed below and he shares this victory with his friend Carly Rose who runs the pastry program for Caffe Ladro. Carly prepared the cascara and grapefruit syrup that was the base of the coffee reduction used in his winning recipe. Ross was very pleased to take home the first place prize, a wooden horse statue that will be his to covet until next year.

NW Space Agency is a community of sorts, comprised of Seattle area Baristas, Roasters, Café Managers, and industry pros who organize various coffee competitions. Their name is a touch more literal than it lets on, as their mission is to “provide space and agency” for area Baristas and coffee enthusiasts.
