Hello everyone, Panda here with a photo recap of TNTNYC at City of Saints.

Last week City of Saints in Brooklyn opened up their roastery and cafe space for TNTNYC! A huge crowd gathered for the the free pizza, free beer, and of course latte art. Latte art is pretty amazing but so are the people who show up to these events which is why I decided to low-key shoot a few candid portraits of the crowd. Thanks to all the sponsors and to @newyorkblackcoffee & TNT_NYC for the additional shots.

Second Annual Cafe Soleil

The Northwest Space Agency held their 2nd Annual Cafe du Soleil – A Cold Coffee Mocktail Competition at the Synesso Factory in Seattle last night. Our Sales & Education Coordinator Ross Beamish competed along other great baristas like Lacy Audry (Kalsada Coffee) and coffee legend Dismas Smith (Caffe Ladro). The drinks had three requirements 1.Must contain coffee 2.Must not contain alcohol (vanilla extract is fine, but no 151 to make it flaming) 3.Must be cold. Competitors made drinks on Synesso’s new MVP Hydra models.

The turnout was great with many folks bopping around the Synesso factory playing ping pong and enjoying coffee cocktails. After the votes came in our very own Ross had taken the top spot! Ross’ winning cocktail is listed below and he shares this victory with his friend Carly Rose who runs the pastry program for Caffe Ladro. Carly prepared the cascara and grapefruit syrup that was the base of the coffee reduction used in his winning recipe. Ross was very pleased to take home the first place prize, a wooden horse statue that will be his to covet until next year.

Thanks to Sponsors:  Barista Magazine, Baratza, Tony’s Coffee and Synesso.

NW Space Agency is a community of sorts, comprised of Seattle area Baristas, Roasters, Café Managers, and industry pros who organize various coffee competitions. Their name is a touch more literal than it lets on, as their mission is to “provide space and agency” for area Baristas and coffee enthusiasts.

CoffeeCon NYC 2016

Hello everyone, Panda here with a recap of CoffeeCon NYC.

CoffeeCon is a relatively new event series that focuses on the specialty coffee consumer. They’ve had events in Chicago and San Francisco and last week they held their first event in NYC. I live in NYC so I made the trek from Manhattan to Industry City in Brooklyn to check things out.

The schedule for this day long event was packed with great classes ranging from latte art to cold brew labs and even “Taste Like an Expert” presentation led by the one and only George Howell. I was one of the lucky 100 that were able to secure a spot in George’s class. We covered seed to cup, farming techniques, how regions and terroir affect taste and tasted coffees from a variety of coffee growing regions.

After my class I hit up the exhibition hall which featured equipment manufacturers, coffee roasters, cafe’s, and a few food options. I spent quite a long time at the Li-Lac Chocolates booth trying their samples…over and over again. The crew at Toby’s Estate pulled me a stellar shot of espresso and some of the best cold brew I have ever had. The first ever Chemex Pop-Up Museum was super cool! They exhibited some items that have never-before been seen by the public and one of the most ginormous Chemex brewers I have ever seen.

CoffeeCon is great because it focuses on presenting specialty coffee to consumers in a relaxed yet informative way. Check the offical CoffeeCon site to see what city they’re visiting next!
