Seattle natives Anchorhead Coffee made their starts in the music industry. After touring for years and drinking subpar coffee in city after city they decided to try their hand at coffee roasting. Fast forward and now they’re roasting, have a line of cold brew concentrate, ready to drink beverages and sell whole bean coffee online!
Anchorhead spent plenty of time in our Coffee Education Lab practicing for America’s Best Espresso Competition. The competition took place at Coffee Fest Portland and we’re very proud to share that they earned the top spot! Stop by our newly renovated Seattle showroom this month and pick up a bag to try for yourself.
Hailing from Opelika Alabama Prevail Coffee is “a craft coffee roaster and micro importer located in the heart of the Deep South.”. You’re likely to find Owner/Roaster Wade Preston in front of his San Franciscan roaster and even behind the bar at his cafe. Somehow he also found time to compete in the recent US Coffee Championship Qualifying Event in Kansas City, MO. We were there and lucky enough to get a taste of his signature bevearage component pecan milk sweetened with mazharul dates.
Prevail Coffee is our first out of state Visions In Focus Roaster. This month when you attend to our Brewing Matters class we’ll be brewing a selection of tasty Prevail Coffee. You can also visit us at our HQ in Seattle to pick up your own bag of beans to enjoy at home. We’ll let you know when beans are in stock and when we’re sold out over on our Twitter feed.
Day 2 is a wrap. The second wave of baristas from the Western region finished and our new champion has been announced. Former Visions team member Cole Mcbride took top honors with Sam Schroeder of Olympia Coffee taking second and Becky Reeves of Ristretto Roasters coming in third.
The US Coffee Championships Qualifying Event got off to a great start yesterday. Competitors in both the US Barista Championship and US Brewers Cup qualifying events are battling for a chance to compete at the national level at the upcoming SCAA Event in Atlanta, GA. Panda, our Marketing & Brand Manager is in Kansas City to cheer on the competitors and give you a behind the scenes look at the world of barista competitions.
Here we have a competitor using The Dragon Brewer at Brewers Cup. For first round of Brewers Cup all competitors brew the same coffee and are judged solely on flavor. If they move on they get to brew their own coffee and present it to the judges.
It’s a barista competition so you know there’s plenty of coffee to go around. We picked up this beautiful macchiato from the BGA Cafe. Shoutout to Kickapoo Coffee for one of the best machs we ever had!
You know we had to cheer on Mae Clark of Seattle’s very own Street Bean Coffee! Baristas only have 10 minutes to craft two espressos, two milk based drinks, and two signature drinks!!!
It’s not all about the coffee. Barista champ Laila Ghambari organized an incredible event called The Coffeewoman. She brought together an all star group of women coffee professionals to discuss their perspectives and experiences navigating their careers in the coffee industry.
